Adopt
a Trail Section |
| |
We
are actively seeking
volunteers (individuals and/or groups) to sign up to
adopt half-mile sections of the DRHT for trail maintenance
- periodically picking up limbs, clearing fallen trees,
checking for litter, etc.
To sign up for your half-mile, check
the trail maintenance sign up sheet and let
us know which un-adopted section you'd like to sign
up for. |

Volunteer
to participate in a Trail Work Party |
| |
Throughout November and December 2007, our work parties will be focused on removing the enormous piles of rotting railroad ties curently stacked at Oak Spring Farm:
-
The ties will be ground into mulch for use on the trail, but first we need many hands to check the pile for chunks of metal as equipment sifts through it.
- As the piles of ties become piles of mulch we will be looking for helpers to spread the mulch along designated sections of the trail.
- Meanwhile some volunteers are needed to work on widening particularly narrow sections of the trail by clearing undergrowth and trimming trees.
Work continues in others areas as well:
- An additional parking area is being created at the Rt 609 trailhead.
- Stone dust continues to be spread along the trail as fudning and equipment make it possible.
- Mile markers are planned.
- We always need extra hands to monitor the trail and
report fallen trees and other obstacles.
More
hands make for lighter work! Contact
our work coordinator if you can help. When possible,
we share information about planned work parties in the Events area of this
web site. To be in the loop on specific work party dates,
times and plans, join
the DRHT Yahoo Group.
Work Party Volunteers should download, complete, sign,
and return the "Waiver and Release Permit"
located on the left. Workers should bring gloves and
wear long pants and shirts. Also bring plenty of water
and perhaps a snack.
See the Events page for
information about scheduled Volunteer Work Parties
Note: The Events are updated often so check back regularly.
